Ninja Classes

Our Ninja Warrior training classes are broken down into three sections that need to be mastered in order to have a chance at defeating the ANW course.

Skills

Each class we pick 2 – 4 main obstacles to tackle. Each obstacle is broken down into the individual skills needed to overcome that obstacle. A ninja warrior needs to be able to draw from a multitude of skill sets in order to overcome the large amount of ever changing obstacles. Our class training teaches skills from various disciplines including parkour, gymnastics, rock climbing, and more.

Strength

The obstacles of Ninja Warrior take strength to overcome, both physically and mentally. We train our strength to be functional and aid in our body movement. No lifting weights here, just body weight. Each classes’ strength training is geared towards building the strength to defeat your obstacles. We make sure that each strength training exercise you do has a purpose.

Endurance

You can be strong as a bull, but when your endurance runs out, you WILL fall off the obstacle. Strength and skill mean nothing when you reach your cardiovascular limit. Our class incorporates Ninja Warrior courses, run again and again to make sure you build the endurance needed to make it through an entire Ninja Warrior competition run.

Our Coaches Are Second To none

Here at The Zone the coaches have worked very hard to put together a step by step, progressive curriculum that teaches the arts of Ninja Warrior Obstacle Racing. Our curriculum has 4 levels, each one building progressively upon the last, to build you from the ground up. Greatest Of All Time (G. O. A. T.)

Each new student begins their Ninja journey in classes focused primarily on safety techniques and body position/awareness. During the classes, each student is continuously evaluated to see which skills need to be worked at their level. Once an athlete has mastered all of your Floor, Walls, and Bars skills for their level, the athlete will be awarded the next Rank starting with G. Moving up to a new Rank unlocks new skills to learn and new lanes that an athlete can train in!

Curriculum Cards and how to Rank Up

Curriculum Cards (also known as evaluation Sheets) and Ranking Up are two fundamental aspects of The Zone that are as important as they are shrouded in mystery. Well, perhaps shrouded in mystery is too extreme a term, but exactly how the two work, and their requirements are not always common knowledge. So today, we are going to dig into Curriculum Cards and Ranking Up, discovering how they were created, what they signify, what the requirements are to Rank Up!

G – Beginner Ninja Warrior and Safety
O – Intermediate Ninja Warrior skills
A – Advanced Ninja Warrior skills
T – Expert Ninja Warrior skills

The Curriculums

There are several unique classes offered at The Zone, with each of them having their own curriculums. Each curriculum has 4 levels, starting at G, moving through O, A, and ending with T. Every new student, regardless of their background, or skill level, starts as a with earning The G. This level is where students begin learning their basic safety and coordination skills, creating a solid foundation for the more advanced skills learned in higher Rank classes. Everyone starts at the same stage, to make sure they have ALL the skills they will need in the higher Ranks, not just most of them.

What Does It Mean To Be A Ninja?

G, are our brand new students. G is the equivalent of Level 1. G. is where students learn their foundational basics, setting them up to do well with higher level skills. Once a student has adequately displayed the skills needed to make it to O. Rank that student is considered to have enough knowledge to train their basic skills safely on their own. This is why we allow students under the age of 18 who have achieved their O. to train at Adult Open Gym with the Adult Athletes. This allows the students to see how the adult members and Athletes of our community approach their training.

O is where students begin to discover medium difficulty skills based on the foundational safety skills learned in the G Rank. Making it to O. means you have already achieved more than most. In Ninja these are the two levels that teach you the foundations of safe powerful obstacle racing.

A is where advanced skills are taught. The O’s are now learning some unique advanced skills that may have no foundation in the earlier Ranks. These are the Ranks where you begin to create a mastery of your sport, creating your own type of movement and style, discovering what it is that brings you joy in your training and putting an emphasis on that.

T is the final Rank at The Zone, but definitely not the end of training or acquiring new skills. The T Rank is the only Rank that does not require mastery of new skills. Instead T’s master the skill learned in the previous ranks and continues to refine those skills for optimal performance at ninja warrior competitions.

When enough skills have been mastered to Rank Up (explained further down below) a Rank Up ceremony will be held at the end of that class. Students will receive their Rank Up Certificate, New Rank shirt and Band, and be praised for their hard work by their peers. Ranking up also unlocks the ability to participate in more advanced classes, learning new skills. Parkour offers three different Rank specific classes. Anyone, or any Rank can participate in a White Rank class, but the opportunity to participate in an Orange or Green Rank+ class MUST BE EARNED.

Ranking Up occurs when a student has every skill on their curriculum card signed off by a Coach and student takes the test.

To get a skill signed off, students must show they know the name of the skill and are capable of demonstrating the skill correctly three times in a row with no assistance or correction from a Coach. When a skill that was previously signed off by a Coach is tested and shows the student can no longer correctly demonstrate the skill, the skill is “whited out” and must be demonstrated correctly three times in a row before it can be signed off again.

Skills can get signed off by a Coach in a few different ways.

Classes – Skills shown to be well executed multiple times or executed to the Coaches satisfaction will be marked off. The first full week of each month is Evaluation Sheet Week, where Coaches place an emphasis on seeing what skills students have learned well enough to sign off.

Open Gym – At slow, or sparsely populated Open Gyms, students can request to demonstrate skills to a Coach for signing off. If the Coach is able and the skill is executed to the Coaches satisfaction three times in a row, it will be signed off. If the Coach has to give any corrections, the skill cannot be signed off and the student will have to wait till another Open Gym to attempt that skill again.

Private Lesson/Testing – Students can hire a Coach for a Private Lesson and have themselves tested on the entire curriculum to see what they have signed off, what they still need to work on, and receive drills to work on from their Coach.
Testing will be conducted during the final day of each course and students can showcase their new skills to their parents.

The Curriculums, signing off skills, and Ranking Up can be confusing whether you are brand new to The Zone or a long time veteran. The Zone’s Coaches will do our best to continue to provide a diverse curriculum and teach students the skills they need to Rank Up.
